The Mission Statement of Belgorod State University
The mission of Belgorod State University (BelSU) is to solve research problems of international and national
significance, to integrate the educational, research, social and cultural functions of the University in order
to train highly qualified professionals capable of ensuring the competitiveness of Russia and Belgorod region
on the global socioeconomic arena, as well as to preserve and develop the cultural and moral heritage
of the country and the region.
Nowadays Belgorod State University has
- more than 25 700 thousand students from all regions of Russia;
- more than 4 100 foreign students;
- more than 5000 graduates annually;
Academic March at the 1st of September
- 33 Joint Educational Projects with top universities in Europe and the Asia-Pacific Region, including 28 with double degrees;
- 7 specialist and master's degree programs are offered in English;
- Over 110 cooperation agreements with foreign organizations from 27 countries;
- 14 academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
- Over 1,100 doctors and candidates of science;
- 10 institutes, 2 colleges, a preparatory faculty, and a Stary Oskol branch;
- Over 1,300 enterprises serving as internship sites;
- 103 departments, 21 of which provide practical training;

- 298 higher and secondary vocational education programs, 25 postgraduate training programs;

- 51 higher and secondary vocational education programs have certificates of professional and public accreditation, 45 of which have international accreditation;
- 4 training programs received a quality certificate based on the results of an external independent assessment of the quality of bachelor's degree graduates;
- 21 dissertation councils in 14 fields of science;
- 45 scientific areas of fundamental and applied research, including:
- 35 areas in technical and natural sciences;
- 10 areas in social sciences and humanities;
- 8 officially registered scientific schools;
- 62 research centers and laboratories, including 10 international ones;
- 2 centers for the shared use of high-tech equipment;

Chronology of events and achievements
In 2009, BelSU became a base university for a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) university.
In 2010, BelSU, the only university not only in the Belgorod region but also in the entire Central Federal District (excluding Moscow universities), received the status of a National Research University.
In 2013, a new 1,000-bed dormitory was built for BelSU.
In 2015, BelSU was ranked among the top 20 universities in Russia based on the results of a performance monitoring of universities subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Science. It retained this position in 2022 and 2023.
In 2016, BelSU entered the top 20 of the National University Ranking prepared by the international group Interfax, taking 19th place among the best Russian universities. It retained this position in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
2017
- Belgorod National Research University entered the top 100 of one of the main global rankings, the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (ARWU), taking the 76-100 position in the "Metallurgy" subject category in the "Physical Sciences" section, a position it maintained for five years.
- The university established a fourth priority research area in the humanities (PR4) - "Man, Society, Science: Problems and Development Prospects."
- Belgorod National Research University joined the consortium of universities exporting Russian education.
- Belgorod National Research University was included in the list of 19 universities and four research organizations that have the right to independently award candidate and doctoral degrees, as well as create dissertation councils and establish their powers.
- Belgorod State University was included in the list of the Federal Institute of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (FIP) for the project topic: "Developing a New Quality of Training for Highly Qualified Personnel in the Context of Implementing the University Development Strategy as a Center for Innovative, Technological, and Social Development in the Region."
2018
- Belgorod State University joined the WorldSkills Russia movement and became an associate partner of the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union.
- Belgorod State University became a co-founder of the Hanseatic League of Universities.
2019
- Belgorod State University became the base university for the world-class research and education center "Innovative Solutions in the Agro-Industrial Complex."
- Belgorod State University was recognized as the best university for its dynamic advancement in the RAEX ranking (by the Expert RA rating agency) over the past six years. The university took 47th place, up from 72nd place in 2015.
- An ambassadorship institute was established at Belgorod State University. The first ambassadors were Belgorod State University graduates from China and Ecuador.
2020
- An agreement was signed between Dezhou University (Dezhou, China) and Belgorod State University to establish a joint institute, the "Belgorod Institute of Food Science and Engineering at Dezhou University."
- Belgorod State University entered the Premier League of the national aggregated ranking of Russian universities, compiled by the Guild of Experts in Professional Education, taking 20th place.
- Belgorod State University entered the top 10 of the first national ranking of "green" universities in Russia for the first time, taking 9th place.
2021
- Belgorod State University entered the "Priority 2030" strategic academic leadership program for state support and university development.
- Belgorod State University successfully completed state accreditation, receiving an Accreditation Certificate for the next six years.
- Belgorod State University entered the Premier League of the National Aggregated Ranking among 687 Russian universities and the Premier League of the National Aggregated Subject Ranking (in five subjects: Mathematics and Mechanics; Materials Technology; Economics and Management; Mass Media and Library Information Science; Education and Pedagogical Sciences).
- Belgorod State University was recognized as the winner of the annual competition for the best organization in the Belgorod Region in the "High Social Efficiency Organization" category.
- Belgorod State University won the prestigious Russian "Project Olympus" competition for the second time in a row, taking first place in the lean management category with its project "Creation of a Student Multifunctional Center."
- Belgorod State University served as the host site for the Federal Internet Exam for Bachelor's Degree Graduates (FIEB) for the first time. Based on the results of the FIEB, BelSU ranked 14th in the "Education Quality Assessment" ranking.
- Following a QMS recertification audit conducted by the Russian Register Certification Association, BelSU's quality management system received a certificate of compliance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001:2015, valid until 2024.
2022
- BelSU won a grant for a student entrepreneurship acceleration program.
- BelSU won the competition for the best organization of student physical education and health programs.
- New dormitory № 8 for graduate and postgraduate students was built and commissioned.
- The book "Island of Freedom in My Heart" was published and presented for the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, featuring the memoirs of Belgorod residents who served in Cuba.
- The Medical College building was reconstructed for its 90th anniversary, and three named and themed auditoriums were opened: the Hall of Memory and Glory of Medical Workers, the Sisters of Mercy Office in the name of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fedorovna, and the Information and Library Center.
- A thematic auditorium, "Mine," was opened at the Institute of Earth Sciences with the assistance of industrial partners Yakovlevsky GOK LLC, PAO Severstal, and JSC KMAruda Plant.
2023
- The Belgorod State University team won the "Public Organization of the Belgorod Region" category, and its name was inscribed on the Alley of Labor Glory.
- Belgorod State University won the "Contribution of Social Investments and Philanthropy to Regional Development" category at the regional stage of the All-Russian competition "Russian Organization of High Social Efficiency."
- Belgorod State University (BSU) won the regional competition for the best organization of physical education and sports activities.
- Belgorod State University (BSU) rose to 22nd place in the Premier League of the 2023 National Aggregated Ranking.
